I am a nanny for a Swedish family with three children (aged 8, 4 and 1). My duties include collecting the children from school and taking them home. I also play with the children, help the eldest with his homework and try to familiarise them with the English language. I work part-time in order to take Swedish classes.
October 2008 – January 2009:
Teaching Assistant at Futuraskolan International Pre-School, Stockholm
I was responsible for teaching a class of sixteen one year olds. I supervised their learning through play and outdoor activities. Working in a team, I helped to co-ordinate the childrens' meals and naps. The main aim of my role was to expand their knowledge of English.
December 2007 – March 2008:
Theatre Marketing Intern at the Barbican, London
As part of a three month internship I wrote and published copy online, both on the Barbican website and for other sites, undertook marketing research for shows and contacted online publications in order to publish listings. I also designed promotional print and organised its distribution. Highlights of the role included attending department meetings and press nights.
October – December 2007:
HR Administration Assistant at Hampshire County Council, Winchester (temporary position)
Following the opening of a new Contact Centre for all services around Hampshire, I was responsible for the administration and implementation of short-listing candidates, inviting candidates to interview and drawing up contracts. This role involved extensive use of computer programmes such as SAP, Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
September 2007:
Editorial Assistant at Condé Nast Traveller magazine, London
I spent a month on a work experience placement in the editorial department writing research projects, organising the office, answering the phones, assisting the editor and standing in for the editor’s PA when she was away. Out of office hours I acted as a welcome host at the tenth anniversary party of the magazine. My research for an article was printed and credited in the January 2008 issue.
July/August 2007:
Promotions Assistant with Avalon Ltd. at the Edinburgh Fringe
I worked on the Street Team alongside other promotions assistants, the head of PR and comedians to promote Avalon’s comedy acts. I acted as a direct link between the acts and the public, approaching and speaking to punters directly at the Pleasance, Underbelly and on the Royal Mile about what to see to ensure sell-out performances.
June/July 2006:
PR and Marketing Assistant at Rough Guides, London
As part of a two-week work experience placement, I was responsible for creating media analyses and recording findings in an Excel spreadsheet, taking press cuttings, organising promotional orders for guides and communicating with readers via letters and emails.
September 2004 – June 2007:
Head Steward and Steward at Warwick Arts Centre, Coventry
As Head Steward I organised up to 16 other stewards to work within different venues, communicating directly between stewards and House Managers in order to keep performances running smoothly. I cashed up money from programmes and merchandise, organised Front of House office and trained new stewards. As a steward I acted as the first port of call for the public, communicating information between them and the Arts Centre. I sold programmes, handled merchandise and ensured the comfort and enjoyment of the patrons before, during and after performances.
